I think we need a thread on growing rotifers! My new broodstock will need them so I must get over my adversion to them. I have hated them for years, because when I first started growing copepods years ago, the stupid rotifers kept getting in my pod culture and consuming all the food so the pods would stagnant! I finally ended up bleaching my entire basement to get rid of the rots and started over. So, Amiegirl, how about telling us the virtues of these little grocery sacks for nutritious algae? |

| I think the write up Amie has on raising rotifers is the best. It is long but good reading. Amie you should really post a link to it. I think it answers about any question one may have on raising these little critters. |

Thanks Larry, and yeah, it's a little long. But believe it or not, I still get questions from people after they have read it. I tried to keep it short and sweet, but people kept asking me more and more questions. So finally, I wrote every single detail. I really should write up a shortened version in the appendix. The thing drives me crazy. It's going to be posted over at BrineShrimpDirect pretty soon, so I can link to it then. I'm not sure I can import a word document into the message board. Suzy, I'm not sure you will ever get over your adversion to rotifers. I know how deep that hatred goes. |

| Amie, I don't need it, I have it on my desk top to refer to any time I want to read it again. I bet Suzy could figure out some way to post it. There has to be a way, sort of like a multiple picture document. I think you did such a good job with it people need to be able to access it some how. I know about the question thing though I bet I bugged you enough after you sent it to me. |

Actually, I revise it everytime someone asks me a question because that means I didn't make it clear. That's why it's so long. I think you may have added a few pages...and an appendix. ;) I don't think you have the latest copy.
I hate them in my pods too. But the upside...I accidentally raised a batch of clownfish on baby tiggerpods once because I didn't realize that my rotifers were all gone and my pods had taken over. I finally surcomed to the problem with pods and rotifers being in the same container and figured out a way to seperate them when I need one or the other. I'd tell you how but it's in my article and I'd hate to ruin the suspense.
I'm okay with that. It's a Word 2007 document with lots of pictures and formatting. Is that going to work? |

I can't get the quote thing to work right for me. This is in reply to Amie's statement. Actually, I revise it everytime someone asks me a question because that means I didn't make it clear. That's why it's so long. I think you may have added a few pages...and an appendix. ;) I don't think you have the latest copy. I finally surcomed to the problem with pods and rotifers being in the same container and figured out a way to seperate them when I need one or the other. I'd tell you how but it's in my article and I'd hate to ruin the suspense. I think I have the separating part taken care of. It is just getting a good culture to start with I guess for me |

| What I have is 11 pages long. If you have an updated copy, e-mail it to me and I will get rid of the old one. Some where I saw or had a picture of copepods, amphipods and mysis shrimp or brine shrimp all lined up by each other showing the different sizes of these things. It was nice to see that and realize that you need those little strainers. But I can't find the picture in all my stuff. Was it at BSD I saw that picture? Or did someone else have it and send it to me? I would love that to be part of your write up also. |
