Brine Shrimpppppppps!

How many peeps here collect from the lake? I think it might be getting close to collection time!

It takes about two weeks for a newly hatched cyst to become a breeding adult, then if conditions are right, the adults then produce live babies. So, mid August the lake should be teeming with adult brine shrimp.

I thought I would start a thread to see how people use them, seeings how we have such a great resource in our back yards.

And, if anyone does go collecting or by the lake in the next few weeks, let us know how the catch looks?

So, any one been near the lake recently? We need to start planning a collection trip!

I gotta tell you guys about my latest score I got from Brine Shrimp Direct. Amie and I went on a road trip there a few days back, and really scored! Of course we both got algae paste for the pods and rots. And we both got the funky cool brine shrimp hatchery. I was skeptical when I first heard about it because I thought it was just th dumb dish that only hatches a dozen artemia. This is a large dodad that actually makes a good enough hatch to last all day. It is the ultimate in cool! I am trying to think of a way to invent one that will let me hatch a weeks worth!

But, the coolest thing I got was their premium hatch fresh BBS eggs/cysts. I cannot believe how quickly they hatch and how completely! I have never had such good eggs!

Thanks BSD!

I'm glad you like the hatchery - I can't live without mine ... and now I have TWO! I've tried to figure out how to make one too. Apparently it can't be any deeper than this one is - so you would have to go wide. Wouldn't you think that the acrylic place would have 2" scraps to make this. Of course, how do you bend acrylic into a full circle?

I'd be interested in knowing more about collecting brineshrimp at the lake. Is there a certain place that you go? What do you do with the cysts once you collect them? Do you dry them? Brineshrimp cysts are so expensive right now, it would be great to collect my own.

Andy, I'd love some - I've been going through mine pretty fast lately. I think the containers I buy are only 2 ounces, 1 pound would be nice. I can't believe you got 10 pounds - that's a lot of brineshrimp. You might want to keep them in the freezer.
