| I'll be you have a yummy crop od mysis shrimps! Yahoo! That is a sign of a healthy tank. Feed them cyclopeeze and their spawn will feed your coral. Plus, you can harvest them to feed your dwarfs when you get them. |

| I had so many pods in my tanks when I first started saltwater and before I put fish in to the tanks. After the fish not as many pods. I still see a few once in a while and I am trying to get a bunch growing in my sump. I really have not had much luck with that. I use to check my tanks out at night and you could see those little buggers all over the place. They are way cool, and depending on what you have they don't get very big, maybe the big ones about 1/4 of an inch. The ones you are seeing are probably adult size and are not babies. |

If they are mysis, they stay small. Maybe the size of an earwig. Clear bodies, unless they have eaten something with color. Then they have red bellies, just like ghost shrimp. You can harvest them with a piece of rigid acrylic tubing attached to a long piece of flexible tubing to your sump. Start the suction and put the end in a net in your sump. Then start sucking them out. They run like jack rabbits, though! Try to get some for your dwarf tank. Larry, are you feeding your sump? |

| Suzy- I feed my sump once in a while about once a week. I don't do it too often cause I think I feed too much any ways. My clown tank is always having a problem with cyano. It is tough cause I have all my tanks with four drains running into my sump, so they really are just one big tank. My sump is long and broke down into three main chambers, two I use for a refugium and grow macro in them. I am thinking of taking my filter socks off and seeing if that helps. I think I would just have to empty my skimmer more often if I did. |

If you took a sock off of just one of your tanks to the sump, then the bugs in your refugium would get fed more often and the refugium would be healthier. The more bugs in your refugium, the less junk in your skimmer, so there's a trade-off. I have an automatic feeder on my refugium so I don't forget to feed the critters. When the food runs out and I forget to add more, I notice a decline in water quality (and mysis, amphipods, etc.) |

| Thanks Amie, just like I put my other socks on one at a time, I will try to take one sock off at a time on my sump. The water in my sump is crystal clear but it being an acrylic sump it has so much coraline and other algae growing on the sides which makes it difficult to actually see inside the two holding tanks and see what my bug population looks like. The flow through my sump is going really fast and my first refugium is full of feather dusters and chaeto. The other has about four types of caulerpa. I am sure they both have their fair share of bugs. |

I only use socks if I need a reason to run extra carbon. All that fine particulate matter is great coral food for my reef! Plus, if I am adding filter food, that would be silly to sock it out! |
