Best Phyto?

OK, peeps! Winter is approaching!

For me, this is good thing/bad thing issue. I hate summer ending, I am not fan of shoveling snow and driving to work in a blizzard ( I save my PTO time for that, 'cause I live far away from work). But, in the winter, my basement gets a bit chilly. I have found that certain spp of phyto will not grow when it is warm, and they all grow better in the winter. So, I usually wait until it is cold to renew my phyto cultures.

I am going to do a red! Anyone who grows it knows it is the best of all, and we can have a stronger herd of fry with red. But, I have tried it enough to know it will not survive long. As long as I am ordering one, I might as well get another. Do you have any preference for any spp?

Check this site for more info:

Guys! This is the algae you are going to get starts of! No preference at all?

Here is what I am thinking: Tetraselmis. It is easy, not too demanding and semi nutritious. It has a natural antibiotic, so it will be great for fry and tanks!

I am sorry, but reef keeping seems to be a ego trip right now, so I cannot grow nanno. It is tooo common! I want rare and delicate!

Ok, I will get nanno if someone wants it.....

LOL

Suzy, I'd like to get Tetraselmis Chui. Sorry it took me so long to respond, I wanted to look over the link and haven't had time today. How much are they? I might want a clean start of Nannochloropsis and maybe Nannoclorosis if they aren't too expensive.

I dunno yet! I am just thinking for the upcoming cold season. But, you can have a start of what ever I get. I owe you for the nudibranchs!

Plus, anyone else can have a start. Spread the joy!

You don't owe me anything for those guys. You already gave me algae and coral...remember? I think we are even. Let me help pay, I know this stuff can be a little pricey.

It depends on what you need, I think. If you want the most nutritious algae for enriching bbs or rotifers for fry, I would suggest using two: one high in EPA and one high in DHA (the two essential fatty acids). But, if you want something to just treat the water (clear ammonia, ect),my personal favorite is Tetraselmis. It is easy to grow, and reportedly has a natural antibiotic effect.

I want to get some stuff from BSD. Does someone know the address I can't seem to find it on the web. Also, what are the best pastes to use for rotifers, pods and such, and which enrichment products are the best?
