Tips & Time Savers!

Colored tape! These are some great tips I never thought of!

Here are a few pump tips:

Try to set up the pump to not touch anything. If it sits on the floor in a sump, put a sponge under it, or use it's suction cups to raise it a touch. Air pumps or external pumps can be hung on a chain in midair. This will cut down their noise big time.

Also, do not try to throttle down a pump, to decrease it's flow. Ball valves are evil, used on pumps. This will greatly decrease it's motors lifespan. Instead, decrease flow using methods after the water leaves the pump. When using air pumps, try to have an empty valve in your line so you can open it, then slowly close it until your other lines reach the optimal flow. Any extra air comes out the open line. I literaly have never had an airpump die using this tip. You would not recognize some of the models I have! Some are over a decade old, used continuously for years and years.

I can test all the parameters for my tanks in 1/2 hr, and that is only because it takes that long to test iron. I have taken all the directions and made a small card with how many cc's to start, how many drops of which vial, ect. So, I don't have to look for the directions on each one. And, I taped the value numbers on my test box.

I keep all the bottles in a box made for needlepoint thread. Quick, easy!

Next time you are at my house, check it out. It is really convenient.

I'd like to see that sometime. I don't think I test as much as you do, but I still test once in a while. I've never tested for Iron.
