Hallo

Hello

I would like to know which one of you lives close the the big Utah lake?

Du you have an artemia paradise in your front yard?

Who does collect the artemia there? Or cysts?

Regards Sylvio

i can see the lake from my backyard, i collected a few hundred about a month ago, but my culture crashed. i collected mainly adults, then i syphoned them all out and i let the lake water sit and a few weeks later i had hundreds of bbs, must be from cycts i collected.

Hi Shane

Paradise? !

Sylvio, it is not that cool! The runoff from all of our yards goes into it, and it fertilizes the green water and the shrimp grow huge and multicolored. Then, the weather cools and they die and the stink reaches for miles! Harvesting any cysts is really gross because there are these huge spiders that live around the shore, and lots of seagulls that make a huge mess.

I just buy them in a bug can for $10 bucks!

But, it is neat to be able to go there and harvest the full grown shrimp. I keep them alive in a big glass jar (5 gallons) and feed them to wild caught finicky fish to teach them to eat frozen. I have gone there and got some to put in the freezer for the winter. But, that is a pain because there is so much floating crap in the water.

Hi Shane

I am really jealous that I don't live there, too. :D

How much ppm salt does the lake have ?

Artemias need lots of oxygen and you can keep them only in large numbers with maximum aeration.

"The salinity of the water averages about 12%, making it much saltier than the ocean. The water is so buoyant that people can easily float. Freshwater showers are available to rinse off after swimming."

Sylvio have you seen the baby brine shrimp hatcherys that we have now? no light and no airation needed to hatch them. They just show up in the middle and you seive them out!!! I've also noticed they hatch in about half the time. It's magic!!!

You can grow them to full size, too:

Paradies? !
