I do not use a skimmer anymore, but not because I have seahorses. I just have no need with all the algae my tanks have. My seahorse tank gets it's return flow from the tank above it, so it has constant microbubbles in it. I am not sure I buy into the theory that microbubbles cause supersaturation of oxygen in the water, and that causes gas bubble disease. I have fish with gas bubble disease and everytime it was just after a male had delivered fry. I truly believe the condition is caused by some tissue in the pouch that becomes necrotic (dead) and forms a gas. After I have flushed the pouch manually, it clears. I think if GBD was caused by the fish getting air in his pouch, he would be able to squeeze it out. A male seahorse can fill his pouch and empty it when ever he wants (He does that to look sexy for the girls!). So, I cannot see why he couldn't just flush out a bubble.... But, I cannot figure out why he can't flush out the dead tissue. They do that lots after they deliver, so maybe there is a spot where a fry can get stuck? |

| i found it so today i am moving some things around i need to get the flow spread out more so i put in a spray bar and a maxi 600. but with the maxi i was worried there would be to much suctions so i fitted it to a 2l bottle. drilled holes in the bottle and its all good there was dabre floating past the holes and never got sucked in so i think we are good i am going to do this with another powerhead and point them at the glass, i think it will all work out, but i need something to test. |
