Tina, I would definitely like to know what questions Sylvio is asking about John's method because I've really been interested in John's experiments from the beginning. I remember when he first mentioned it on MOFIB and how many people said it couldn't be done. It was fantastic that he had such great success with it. I've had a lot of people try to get me to take the eggs from their tanks and I wasn't willing to because it's too much trouble. I've also gone to people's tanks and caught the babies right when they hatch and brought them home, but the success rate is very low. I think scraping the eggs instead of getting them after hatching would give you a higher success rate in those instances.

So...explain please away, I'd love to hear more. First of all, does it need to be in a funnel? And how many days before they are scheduled to hatch has he taken them with success?

Sylvio, congratulations!

Once when I was catching larvae at someone's house, I got really frustrated because they weren't hatching and I was so tired and ready to go home. So I just syphoned the rest of the eggs off the rock. (This was about 2 years ago.) I figured that I didn't have anything to lose. I put the eggs in a tall glass with an airline in it and there were about 20 out of maybe 40 that hatched by morning. But they didn't seem very strong and I don't think that any of them survived once they got mixed in with the other larvae. I think the syphoning was pretty tough on them.
