Tinkering with the idea of starting a culture. Not sure what type would be the best to try. I have the 55 anemone/clown tank, ok I guess it has zoas too. The 125g is a mixed Reef - zoas, LPS, SPS and a few lingering sofies. Fish include a large Palani Tan, a trio of Barlett anthias, a few wrasses, tons of clowns, and my Bluespots.Hum, I wonder what little baby Bluespots would eat best? (Yes, I am dreaming, but a girl can have her dreams.) Anyway, looking for ideas and to see if someone has any they would like to share with a rookie! Probably set something up over the long Thanksgiving weekend. |

No fry yet, right? If it were me, I would start a killer algae farm refugium. I would get an algae that Tangs love (I have one they think is candy!) and hook it up to your main display so it's can consume the nitrate and phosphate from the main display. I would put a cheap light from Home depot on it, like the $8 buck one I got. I would also fill the bottom with rock rubble. Then, as the algae started to grow strongly, I would begin feeding the rubble. In a few weeks, you will have an amazingly strong filter for your tank, plus some very healthy and nutritious snacks for your fish and corals. The snacks money can't buy! I would also get a mason jar and start growing copepods. Easy Peasy Mac N Cheesy! |

"I would get an algae that Tangs love (I have one they think is candy!)" Is this a secret kind? You got any to spare? My tang would love some live stuff! I have a 19 gallon refugium that gravity feeds to my sump. I have chaeto and a 6" sand bed in it. I had rubble in there too, but must admit it has been taken and used by the Bluespots (I swear they get in the refugium and help themselves). Rotifers best for corals? Pods best for fishies? Is that right? Phyto - feeds rotifers? Just get some paste, right? |

I use paste for most stuff. Rotifers feed corals but so does the larvae of pods. I think pods are way easier to grow and less time consuming. It is not a "secret" kind, but one I share with fellow UBTers. I have given it to lots of people in WMAS, too so you can ask if someone is closer. I am in Riverton. |

Oh, if I come to your place though I would get to see baby seahorses too? So, does the secret kind that we share have a name? |

It could be a Halymenia species, but out of the 8000 red species, I am just guessing. Actually, if you come here, you MUST see the baby seahorses. Kind of a rule at our home. Anyone who comes here must see them, even if you are just the FedEx guy delivering a package, or the salesman trying to sell alarm systems or the plumber fixing the water softener... |

lol! I can pretend to be the FedEx guy if I have to. Red! Cool! I have some Chaeto in there, is it compatible with that, or should I move it? Does this kind attach to rocks? Anyway, PM me your contact info and let me know how much you want for some (or what type of frag you might want if you'd take a trade). I'll be out and about Friday, Sat, and/or Sun if you are in town and have some available. Thx! ;) |

Surely! I can't charge you. I need to build up some reef goddess karma to get a girlfriend for my new fish! Chaeto is compatible with anything. But, when the other stuff starts growing well, your Cheato might go dormant. No loss, IMO! Chaeto is my least favorite algae... Can you shoot me a pm closer to the end of the week so I don't space this? I have terrible ADD and I will completely forget this conversation in about 6 minutes.... Sorry? Hire the handicapped I say! |

Girlfriend for new fish...(your seahorse papa?) I would think that saving all the fry babies should stack you up pretty good! |
