With anthias, I usually try gut-loaded and garlic-covered live brine shrimp with them because they will stay in the water column longer, and not sink to the bottom like other food will. What I normally do is enhance the brine with some vitamins (Zoe, Selcon, VitaChem), dose a few drops of garlic on them, feed the tank as you normally would, and walk away for a few minutes. This will allow the anthias to come out and eat and not feel very frightened. After a while, it may start picking at the frozen and flake and it will get used to you because it will realize that you are the one putting the food in the tank.

When you start the live brine, I normally put all of the other food in first, so that all of the other fish eat, and then you can put your teaspoon of brine shrimp in and walk away.

And yes, before someone jumps in and says live brine are not nutritional, I would like to say that an anthias eating live brine with vitamins is better than him not eating at all. At least the live brine will get him used to eating in captivity, whereas starving him does not usually work well with anthias.

Once they start eating and get some nutritional value your home free. BTW they are great fish..

Great advice Bob. The only time they are not nutritious is when you are not enriching them or gutt-loading them. They are a great carrier for the last food that they just ate, ie. garlic, selco, vitamins, etc. Even if they didn't carry any nutritional value, when you get a new fish, it's a great way to get them used to the tank and the feeding schedule. Sometimes new fish just won't eat anything but live food until they get used to the 'way things work'.

btw: what kind of vitamins do you use?

only QT for 3 days or so to get them wormed. you need prazi pro.. than get them in the tank. start feeding them FINELY minced mysys several times a day until they learn to eat a lot at once. You will probably lose at least one

well, they are all in the QT tank hiding under a rock.....there are 15 total, and we will be treating them for 4 days, and then throwing them in the main tank.....

So far so good, they all survived shipping and are still alive after a few hours in the QT tank. I am just glad that I run UV and Ozone, and hope that I don't get ick in the tank.....We will keep you posted.

Thanks bob, most of these are Jeremy's, but I may have to talk him out of a few more if they all make it....

Also, you need to come by and see the new tank/house.....and if you still have that rock anemone, I would take it back ;)
