I have found that the length of the skirt changes due to environmental factors, not just genetics. i have had a few different kinds of zoanthids that will change depending on where they are placed in the tank. In the same colonies, I have seen some zoas that would be 'labeled as long skirts', and some that would be labeled as short skirts. It seems that the closer to the lights, and the slower the flow, the longer the skirts will grow. A good comparison would be that the grass that grows on the path is always shorter than the grass that grows next to the path. So I would just find some for sale and then play with their placement in the tank to get the skirts to grow longer. That is one of the fun things about corals, they seem to be fast tracked on the evolution chart. They will morph and change in each persons tank. |

| I'm with Jerry except the evolution part: It is a small point, but populations of coral evolve (genetic change) slowly, while their phenotype (outward appearance) can change very quickly (hours to days). |
