My first attempt at selling....

...is going to be macroalgae.I put this in the nutrition section because one of my favorite algae is a yummy one that tangs and angels love! This is a dark red slower grower that is great for nutrient removal but serves a double purpose: once it absorbs all the nitrate and phosphate I want, I can harvest it and feed it to my fish. They literally love it. And, what could be better than home grown fresh veggies for them?

My fish as soooo spoiled...

I am not sure yet. What would be a good price for it? I do have some good species, and I have requests for them quite frequently.

I think you should do a search for macroalgae and see what the going rate is. Talk to me about shipping and packaging, I can help you with that.

That stuff is a slow grower isn't it? It would be hard to be able to supply the demand unless you could figure out a way to mass produce the stuff. Are you planning on selling it locally or planning on shipping it to where ever? Shipping would be pricey in my opinion. I wish you luck and if you need any help, I would be glad to do what I can.

Actually, if you can ship over 2 days, it would only cost $10-$15. If you ship overnight, you can get it down to $35-$40ish, depending on the location.

No, identifying algae is a crap shoot. I had an alga before that our local fish club traded around with each other and for years we called it C racemosa. As I started collecting different species of algae, I found 4 that were almost identical, and they all fit the criteria for C racemosa. I think no one can ID algae without a phycologist (made up that title!) degree! I will have to add a caveat that my algae are C racemosa like.....

Let me research that one a bit? I only have to go through 8,000 species...

As far as shipping, I think I can add very little water, and decrease the weight. Every time I have ordered it, it comes with no water. I will have to test it on a volunteer.

You could probably ship it for under $5-6 if it's that lite. You don't necessarily need to ship it, just pack it up, set it in the garage for 24 hours an then check it.

You might need to use a heat pack in a few weeks. I have a few.

Sweet! There are so few places with macros available!

So, I have a 75 gallon to grow the fast growers and this 50 gallon sump for the slower ones. I set up the perfect light for it. It heats and grows algae! Win-win in my cold Utah basement!

I still have to divide it up, so the algae will be single species. I think I can easily make 4 growing areas. Plus. a sweet spot for a super pod growing turf alga!
