| It is a kind of complicated. In a word yes, those chemical mediators and hormones are the product of genes being expressed, but to limit it to hormones and chemical mediators is to miss out on a lot that happens. Anything that a cell makes is ultimately an expression of genes. You are not always using all of your genes. Some gene only regulate other genes. Some genes, or more accurately, the proteins or product they encode only are produced at specific points in the cell cycle or in the larger organism's development. Some are always produced but at different levels. The point is simply this; At different times cells can have a significantly different roles and those roles are fulfilled by altering the pattern of gene expression. |

How has surgery been going, btw? I've been so swamped and over my head lately with stuff that I'm way behind in the class. I feel bad because I wanted to be raising something by now. There's only 3 weeks left. |

I cannot open the last 2 lessons! I wrote to the Professor on my ipod and he said "Sorry, but I don't use yuppie toys or other fruity products." Amie, can you open it? 7 and 8? I have gotten a lot so far. Just the first 2 lessons helped me! This would have been stuff you already know, Clint, but just ;earning how to research has helped me a lot. So, our genes are set for a certain time line, I think. We are born, we get puberty, we have children, we get old. But, a coral might be able to go back to an earlier time frame, after milleniums of hurricanes forcing them to adapt. The protein mediators (hormones!) would be able to reset their clocks......maybe? Off topic: Estrogen is the superior hormone.... |

Surgery is done at it was fine. Estrogen is fine, I like it in moderation, I guess it is fine in excess if that is all you can get.

estrogen is one of those things......You can't live with it..others can't live with you when you are without it. In my world, things are going to be different. Suzy, I sent you lecture 7, let me know if it works for you. Lecture 8, I got 1/2 of it. I think Ron was trying to make a joke about you using Apple computers and software. He obviously isn't very funny, but he's trying to get into the spirit of it, and doing a bad job. I don't think he's gotten most of the jokes we've told in the class. We'd probably be sent to the principles office by now if this was a real classroom setting. |
