I don't think they will except donations of corals or livestock either. They have such a strict regimen of quarantine I think they just want to do it their way and get what they want.
I thought it interesting however I was told and asked by one of the guys there once, that if something unforeseen happened there and they needed help keeping their stuff alive, they would not hesitate asking the public (mostly people in the hobby) to help out and keep their stuff from perishing.

Who said that?

They do accept some donations. I know after the last "frag fest" that one of the local clubs did, the club gave them the bags no one else wanted. They put them in a tank in the quarantine room and they are still there, I think. And, when Andy came to my house, I asked him if he would take my rabbit fish because he has gotten so big. He said he would, and he promised to feed him yummy algae every day! But, he (the rabbit fish) might be an exception, because he is unusual and they don't already have one.

Plus, Amie has donated nudibranchs to them. I think it really depends on the donation and the needs of the aquarium.

I think as they are planning on the new aquarium opening, they may consider more donations. Maybe. But, no one should plan on getting a fish they know will outgrow their tank or their desire with the hopes that the aquarium will accept them as a donation. Unless they ask first! I am wondering if I could grow some baby sharks for them!

Larry, you had better ask first!

No problem Suzy, I don't really like sharks but one of my daughters sure does. It will be a couple of months before I make it back to the LPA. I have things going on this month. Some sharks are pretty neat. I love the look of their eggs. Let us know what they tell you.

Hey, I forgot about the nudibranchs...did they do any good?

Suzy explained the LPA to me a while ago and it made a lot more sense. She compared it to the zoo, saying that the zoo wouldn't consider taking a cat from me. Or even if I was an expert at keeping tigers, they really wouldn't care or want to hear from me because they have their own staff and experts. If one of their tigers died and I offered to give them a new one, they might be happy to get it, but that wouldn't mean that I had a foot in the door to give them free advice, even if I wanted to give it. I would have to start at the bottom, just like everyone else, as a volunteer or as an employee.

They actually are a member of the zoo big wig organization and there are laws that prohibit them from doing certain things. That is why I or you or even we as a group cannot try to raise their fry and/ or larvae at our homes. Even if we promise to bring back as many adults as we take home, there are rules that govern what they can. I/ we have to raise the fry there. Dang it!

I asked the curator what they do with the large animals that die (the octopus had just expired). They actually have to send them to a special place to be cremated, I think to the same place the hospitals send body fluid crap. The animal could expose our native animals to a disease they couldn't be immune too.

He also told me about how the zoo in Colorado put a giraffe in the dumpster and a photo got released to the press. Made a big hoolabalooooo.....
