Styrofoam, Gorilla Glue, Corona and Cuttles!

Now I am committed.

Not as in "Honey, are you crazy!" but as in I have to do this now. I have stepped over the edge, gone done and did it, so now I have to follow through...

I emptied my FOWLR, and put the butterflies in the reef tank. The loss I might suffer in coral polyps is the price I will pay for this endeavor.....

Along with the actual price I will pay for the animals, the live food they require and the tank adaptions.

I am still trying to find cuttlefish eggs. Seeings how my personal suppliers are ignoring my pleas, I am still holding out for local fish stores. Next week is a major party week, the next week is holidays. If at that point, I am still cuttlefishless, I will persue other options!

But, as a prudent but anxious hobbyist, I am getting prepared for them now. I have a strong 50 gallon sump growing amphopods, 6 buckets of copepods, 2 mysis dedicated tanks, one ghost shrimp breeder and an email out for tiny calanoid (live in the water column) copepods.

But, this gives me time to really foo foo their tank. It can be a planted which I find uber sweet! I love planted tanks! The bright colors, the growth rates, the movement of algae, ect. I actually wish all my tanks could be planteds!

My other planted is a low scaped view, with a visable colored background. To contrast that, this tank could have a background that goes to the top of the tank, with a gorgeous algae covering it. I am think C peltata, mostly because it has a growth pattern that will co-operate, and it has a sweet light lime green color. Accenting it with just another dark green will make it a background. I am not sure I will add any focal points (or any red alga) because the fish them selves are so flambouyant.

So, here is what I am doing now. I got some styrofoam, coated it with Gorilla glue and sand and rubble. That is the background for most of the tank. Because it floats, I stuck it under the lip of the tank. But, the overflow will require a piece of acrylic covered in glue and sand. I might just try to place rocks there.....

The spp I am looking for, and is common (as common as a cuttle can be) has about an inch mantle (body), and can live with tank mates, inc it's own siblings!

I think the limiting factor is the food supply. Gotta grow a lot!

You want the sepia bandesis. That is the one Richard Ross raises, and that is the same one I had.

Yes! Mike from another local store is going to look. He said they are on his list weekly so we'll see...If I am Cutteless by Jan, I will get super serious and get on the www, Reefs.org...

So, this is where I am. I wonder if I added too much Corona?

OK, yes, it looks dorky and yellow. Just wait. It is going to be uber cool soon. But, I am thinking using black plastic needle point mesh in front of the overflow. That is a handmade piece of rock someone gave me, but it takes too much room IMO. If I put something for algae to climb, it could easily be hideen behind a screen of algae, which would let water through to the outlets....

I wonder if I need to change the lights? I think these are home depot lights in a vho fixture.....
