Yeah, me too, I hate that. And the insurance company, and the electric company, and the gas company, and the ..... Drives me crazy. Suzy, I don't want to tear my reef tank down to put a new back on it, but I really need to get some more spots to put some corals that are in my sump at the moment. The problem is that some of my rocks come too close to the back wall for me to be able to slide any acrylic down the back wall. So I'm kind of stuck. Any ideas? Could I glue, under water, pieces of acrylic to the back wall? And if I can, how could I make them look good enough that it wouldn't look stupid. |

I wouldn't glue it to the wall, that is too permanent. BUt, I think if you used acrylic, you could just remove the top few rocks, place the back ground and then put the rocks back, it could look really cool. Acrylic won't try to float, and the lip of the tank holds it in place too.

I'm always amazed when I find a post that you made a long time ago that I should have found before. I've been wondering aboutt this. So I could cut my acrylic the correct width at the top, but maybe only have it go about 1/2 way down and then have it narrow to about 6" for the rest of the length so it can rest on the bottom. That 6" strip wouldn't show because it would be behind the rocks anyway.

Yes! Acrylic works better than styrofoam because it doesn't. want to float. I used that on the side of my reef, and added a piece that pokes out about 2 inches. I glued small rocks around it. That is where I can hide my power head, get great flow but the pump is easliy accesible. Easy peasy!

You mean you built a box around the powerhead?

No, just a piece of acrylic that is glued to the acrylic back that provides a short small wall in front of where the power head goes. I then gorilla glued rocks, sand to it all. After adding it to the tank, I put more rocks in some places, added some corals here and there.

I guess you will have to show it to me next time I'm there. I don't understand how you can put the acrylic against the back wall, and still have it in front of the powerhead.
