Valentines Day is just around the corner and I have been patiently waiting for months for my seahorses to spawn. Would it be too much to ask for them to do it in February?

I have been collecting broodstock from a few different sources. Some are wildcaught, some are from 2 different captive bred dealers. But, I keep having issues with the females! When I ordered the WC, I did not specify gender, knowing it would be hit or miss to get them to eat. At that time, I also ordered 2 pairs from a breeder who sent 3 males and 1 female. My wc females refuse to eat, I am really surprised 2 of 3 are still alive.

So, I ended up with 5 males and 1 female in the broodstock tank. Thinking that she would hook up with one of the sexy
hot studs in her mist, I waited a month or more...

She has been in hiding the entire time! She will not leave

Sorry, guys. I was chicken pecking on my ipod, and it would not let me scroll to the bottom to finish!

So, my one poor little female was scared to come out of the grass bed. The males began entertaining each other! Literally, they would do the courting and flirting stuff with each other!

I really like to think I have an open mind about humans with alternate lifestyles. I have quite a few friends at work who are gay, my nephew is and I could not love him more. But, gay fish don't give me fry! I should be having fry every 2 weeks here!

I bought 3 more females, but they are juveniles still. Right now, I have 9 fish: 5 males, 4 females and no fry and no one seems into giving me any!

Ideas to encourage spawning? I try to feed twice a day, and I turned the temp up yesterday from 74` to 78`. Summer has arrived to the tropics!

Maybe rose petal oil and chocolate extract. 1ml/20 gallons would work.

I think it may be working! 2 males are hanging with the adult female, she is not running away. But, one male is flirting with her, one is still flirting with him.....

It is funny to watch 2 males flirt. One goes into the classic female routine, playing hard to get one second, then coming back if he stops chasing. The other flashes his colors, inflated his pouch, grabs "her" tail and starts convulsing like he is having a seizure!
