Suzy, That is an interesting idea. I tried to grow tet a couple of years ago in the lab. Because the cillia would get tangled the cells would clump and fall out of culture, so I used a stir plate that kept the cells in suspension. Once the culture reached a certain concentration they still became tangled and would clump. Do you look at yours under a scope? Are they still motile? Are they clumped at all? I am wondering if I went the wrong way with gentle agitation. How fast is the air coming through the line? Good job, John |

| John, I have been told that they clump when they are dead. You have agitate them to stay apart, but they would not be motive on their own, would be my guess. |

Oh, heck yes they are motile! When I started the last culture, I looked at each bottle to see which was cleanest to use to restart the next. Every cell was cruising like crazy! I use a lot of air bubble turbulence. I find it does better if the water looks to be boiling. I was using a smaller pump back a bit, and I had trouble keeping them in the water column even with the funneled bottom. Strong movement is best for this spp, I think. |

| I was afraid I would rip their little cillia off...could I get some tet to play with high speed on a stir plate? I would also like to try your DP aparatus. You may need to sell the designs for it! |

Amie, Clumps I observed contained several dead (non-moving) but also several live cells. On several occasions I saw two stuck together both apparently alive, so I don't think that is an accurate statement, though there was a higher percentage of dead cells in bigger clumps. My guess is that as they settle to the bottom in clumps they quickly die. |

| John, let me know if you see anything bad in that bottle? It is the most likely to be contaminated because I was using it..... |

Suzie, I plan on buying a new air pump and line today and get it started in the loft (lots of free sunlight). I wanted to hook things up but unfortunately three to four truck loads of weekendeners tried getting up our canyon and screwed it up for the rest of us. The boys and I were stuck on the road for an 1 1/2 hours while they cleaned up the mess. It wasn't a total loss as I met a lot of nice people, bashed up my knuckles putting chains on a damsel in distress' xterra, realized I have some fans from rocking the kasba (church). Thanks for meeting me on short notice. It was fun watching you and Amber give each other crap. If you ever get the chance you should go to the Shedd aquarium. I haven't been there in years but may plan a Chicago trip this summer just to go there. |

What did they do? I think I should just take Amber outside and give her a smack down! She is soooo lippy! (I met John at Fish 4 You. Amber works there, and is a great fish catcher!.) I saw 2 other reefers I knew there. Corey from y ol' club back years ago remembered me, and a neighbor who quit the hobby was there getting back in. Neighbor, if you read this, start a thread about your endeavors? I was thinking on the way home, I think I have a clownfish of yours? Want him back? |
