| Can I keep different varieties of seahorses in the same tank or will the different types breed? I am not sure this will be much of a problem since I have seen no males in the pet stores. I know it's important to buy captive bred horses, but they won't sell males(says the stores I have talked with) except in the dwarf. |

LFS will sell both male and female seahorses, they just can't tell the gender. They CB stock they are getting are very young, and males do not get their pouches until they are around 3 months old. So, if you get a few, chances are you will get a male and a female. I do not keep differing species together. H erectus has some weird infliction that every other species I have tried to keep with them has gotten a disease. It has happened to me 3 x's. I have also heard of it happening to others, some in our valley. Plus, I do think H kuda/H reidi can cross breed, but the fry are very weak. I have not heard of them surviving. |

| Dang I was thinking about getting some erectus. They are one of the few I can find online that are a decent price. The two horses I have are at least a good three inches with tail. Wouldn't they be at least three months old? |

| Ryan at Aquatic Dreams said his supplier laughed at him when he asked for some males. He said the breeders keep them. |

I have never heard that. In fact, I do believe females are need more for the 2:1 ration for breeding. Ryans supplier gets juvenile seahorses, with no way of telling gender. I would think 3 inches would be adult size and be able to be sexed. If they have no pouch, they are probably female. But, I just had one of my "females" grow a pouch! |
