My first successful non-Nanochloropsis phyto

I've never had much of a problem growing Nanochloropsis, but I've always had issues growing everything else. But thanks to Suzy's new method, I got a new culture that is starting to grow and I'm really excited. Too bad I don't know the name of it, I'll have to find out. But it's red!
It's not Rhodomondos though.

When I added the starter culture to the water on Tuesday, I added such a small amount to the water that the water was still really clear. I figured I made a huge mistake and didn't start off with a smaller amount of water. But today, the entire liter is light pink!

Red or brown? I want some! But, maybe not. I have to start Isochrysis because my seahorse hero is going to give me some Acartia when I visit him in Sept, and he has grown it for years using just live Iso. Since I really need Acartia to fulfill a deep unfulfilled need, I want to grow them his way!

But, what are you doing different? Bleach? Too easy, huh?

When is your trip? Soon? And yes, it's the bleach trick that is making the difference, I'm sure. I've never bleached my saltwater before, I've always been too scared to do it. The cool thing about this red phyto is that it sat in my fridge for probably 4 months, I was sure it was dead. It's doing really well.

I talked to a friend that grows phyto and he puts a ton of fertilizer in his phyto. He told me he adds 6ml per 2 liters and his phyto hits its peak in 5 days. Isn't that about 4 times what you put in?

Yes! That is a lot! I wonder if that would increase the density? I will add more next time, but the one time I did double the dose, it crashed. It may have been something else so I will try it again. Are you adding a declorinator or just waiting a day for the bleach to dissapate?

We are not going collecting in the Atlantic until the end of September. He said it is a good time, because any tropicals that are in that area will die from the cold anyway, as winter comes in. So, we are doing the fish a favor! Saving their lives!

Suzy, how did the fertilizer increase go? I'd be interested in knowing. Also, I am not adding a dechlorinator. Should I be?

It did not grow as well with more. 3 cc's per gallon seems to work bestbwith tetraselmis.

I do not add declorinator. Just bubble overnight....
