| There are many discussions on Global Warming/Climate change in our environment. I am going to start a thread to see if we can understand the research we find, discuss the validity of it, and find areas where all can agree. |

I actually have a varied opinion. Is it valid? I think so and I believe we will see it as a greater or bigger problem in the future unless we can do something about it. If we do something and nothing results from it what harm is done? If we don't do anything, there may come a time when we wish we had. Our planet has gone through many changes since it's existence and will continue to go through many more. The life on our planet comes and goes in various ways. Many species disappear and are replaced by others that are more adaptable to the changes around them. I once read an article where it stated that in the next 40 years the climate of our state will change significantly and that average temperatures will rise and we will become more tropical with a lot more rain. I believe they tried to compare it to a more southern climate. It also stated that areas close to the equator will be unbearable to live. This I think is pushing it a bit too much and of course was just someone's opinion. I have also heard discussion about the ice caps melting which I think is a fact. I believe this may screw up many wildlife habitats like that for the polar bear I think they stated. If this happened to a great extent we might see a majority of coastal cities under water and I don't want those people here. I think as long as there are opinions without facts we will continue to have various sides to what is really going on or is going to happen. |

Of course your opinion is valid! That is why it is called an opinion!
I love this thought. This is totally where I think the discussion in America needs to go. Some will argue why do anything if it is going to cost money and it not necessary? But, if we consider it a different way, not as climate change or as global warming, but what it really is: pollution, then we can see that it really is costing us a lot by doing nothing.
I see species disappearing at an alarming rate, but I am not sure they are being replaced. Adaption can happen, of course, but some changes are happening too quickly, like in our oceans with the increasing pH. The climate models you refer to are the only part I like of theory! We will get tropical beach front property! |

| I agree with the pollution problem. Because of insecticides and the poisons we put into our environment, many species are disappearing from existence. Frogs all over the world are becoming less and less. Birds of prey are disappearing and as you said in our oceans soon we will have destroyed most of the reefs of the world. Bottom line, it is our fault and only we as a race have the ability to stop it. |

I think if you don't believe that icecaps are melting, just talk to someone that has been on a cruise up to Alaska. Everyone I have talked to that has gone up there has come back significantly altered in their opinion about Global warming. Apparently, it's quite alarming to see. I agree with both of you, the changes that can be made can only be for the betterment of our planet and our health. If we were breathing cleaner air, I certainly would be happier. However, I have been more concerned lately with issues like the BP oil spill, that released more methane gas into the atmosphere and caused more damaged than we ever could have done. I'm not sure how that damage can be undone. Catastophies like that are unacceptable and that one should have been avoided because of the evidence that it was going to happen in the first place. It all comes down to our dependence on oil. If we, as individuals, would finally come to the realization that we are the ones driving these projects because it generates money for someone else, maybe we could put an end to it. But everyone always wants to point the finger at the government or corporate America, or whoever. I don't know if any of that made sense or not. |
